Ajmer Sharif Dargah: A Rajasthan court has recently accepted a petition filed by Vishnu Gupta, president of the Hindu Sena, claiming that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was originally a Shiva temple. The court’s decision has initiated discussions over a possible survey by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Reacting to this, Sarwar Chishti, secretary of the Anjuman Committee in Ajmer, has expressed regret and described the move as not being in the interest of the nation.
Sarwar Chishti’s Remarks on the Petition
Sarwar Chishti responded to the court’s acceptance of the petition by highlighting the historical and spiritual significance of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah. In a video shared on X by NDTV India, Chishti said, “Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti ki dargah jo hai, woh ek kaamil harmony, diversity, aur sampradayik sadbhavna ka prateek hai.”
Chishti also noted the dargah’s role as a center for religious harmony and a source of livelihood for many, emphasizing its importance on a global scale. “Is dargah ki crores aur arbon mein arjani (income) hai, toh yeh koi maamuli baat nahi hai. Humne bade bade dor dekhe hain, lekin Alhamdulillah kuch nahi hua,” he added.
Speaking further, Chishti expressed his disappointment over what he called repeated attempts to question the origins of religious sites, stating that such actions are unproductive. “Teen saal se yeh log bas bayaan-baazi aur unnecessary disputes kar rahe hain. Har jagah, puraane mandiron aur masjidon par ye log aise harkatein karte hain. Lekin yeh cheezein desh ke hit mein nahi hain. Hum dekh rahe hain kya karna hai aur karenge. InshaAllah, kisi ki bhi yeh murade kabhi puri nahi hongi jo galat soch lekar aaye hain,” he stated.
Details of the Petition Filed by Hindu Sena
The petition filed by Vishnu Gupta seeks to establish that the land on which the Ajmer Sharif Dargah stands was originally a Shiva temple. In addition to this claim, the Hindu Sena has requested permission for Hindu worship at the site and urged the court to allow an ASI survey to verify the historical origins of the location.
During a prior hearing, the Hindu side presented a book as evidence, citing historical references to support their claim. The court, after reviewing the petition, has set November 27 as the date for further proceedings on the matter.
