Ranchi News: Big Relief! Railways to start New Giridih to Ranchi Intercity Express to start from September 12, Details here

Ranchi News: Starting from the upcoming month, residents of Giridih will have a convenient direct rail connection to Ranchi. The East Central Railway (ECR) zone has made the decision to launch a mail express train (train number 03309) connecting New Giridih railway station to Ranchi railway station, commencing next month. The Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, also serving as the Chief Public Relations Officer of Dhanbad rail division, announced that the inauguration of the New Giridih-Ranchi mail express train is scheduled for September 12.

Halts for the train

Set to commence its journey, the train (with number 03309) will begin its operation from New Giridih railway station at 10 am on September 12, subsequently establishing a regular service from September 13. The train’s route encompasses halts at Jamua, Dhanbawar, Maheshpur, Koderma, Hazaribagh Town, Barkakana, Mesra, Tatisilvey, and finally reaching its destination at Ranchi.

Simultaneously, Nirmal Jhunjhunwala, the President of Giridih District Chamber of Commerce, has dispatched a letter to Amar Prakash Dwivedi, the General Manager of Eastern Railway located in Kolkata. The correspondence outlines a plea for an extension of train number 12383/84, specifically the Sealdah-Asansol Intercity Superfast train, to extend its route up to Koderma via Madhupur and New Giridih. Notably, the Giridih railway station, a part of the Asansol division of Eastern Railway, has been operational for 152 years.

Yet, despite this history, there has been an absence of a direct train connection between Giridih and both Asansol and Kolkata. Facilitating a direct train link to Kolkata would significantly benefit the local populace and serve the broader interest of the region, potentially benefiting thousands of residents in Giridih.

New development on Sealdah-Asansol Intercity Superfast

According to Nirmal Jhunjhunwala, the Sealdah-Asansol Intercity Superfast train currently operates with 14 coaches, returning to its origin at Asansol after a 9.30-hour journey. It is proposed that this train’s route should be extended to Koderma via New Giridih, facilitated by incorporating two extra sleeper coaches, two air-conditioned (AC) coaches, and one additional three-tier AC coach. This adjustment not only has the potential to boost railway revenue but also enhances the convenience for Jharkhand’s railway passengers.
