In a major step for the residents of Jharkhand (especially those who handle land and estate issues at the official level related to the defence sector), a dedicated Defence Estates Office (DEO) has been formally made operational in Ranchi. This long-awaited move is a major administrative solution, as earlier people used to travel to Bihar to avail themselves of the benefits of defence estates.

According to Prabhat Khabar, with this new office, the people of Jharkhand will be directly connected, and now the land documents, the renewal of leases, and other matters related to the estates under the Defence Ministry can be resolved quickly and efficiently.

Long-Standing Demand Finally Fulfilled

The construction of Ranchi DEO has fulfilled a long-standing demand raised by public representatives and war veterans of the region. BJP MP Sanjay Seth, who played a key role in lobbying for the office, was present there during the inauguration. In a major step for the residents of Jharkhand (especially those who handle land and estate issues at the official level related to the defence sector), a dedicated Defence Estates Office (DEO) has been formally made operational in Ranchi.

The new office will likely handle more than 2000 defence land files each year, and most of them are concerned with lease renewals as well as registration of property and change of title.

Benefits for Defence Personnel and Civilians

The largest gainers of the shift are pre-army retirees, the army housing societies, and the civilians on cantonment land, who will now be able to appeal to the locality. This would also imply faster redress of grievances, the ease with which records can be reached, and the ease with which there could be coordination between the local administration and the defence ministry.

It is likely to instill transparency in land transactions, less red tape, and speedy file movements that were earlier stalled because of interstate coordination between Jharkhand and Bihar.

Administrative Decentralization: A Step Forward

The ruling is part of a more encompassing change toward administrative decentralization, where the services are brought closer to the population. It is also the directive of the Centre to minimize the discomfort of the population and enable local offices to work autonomously.

The change has been met with high hopes as the operations have already commenced with the residents.
