New Delhi: Fear gripped the national capital on Monday evening after a car explosion near the Red Fort metro station caused multiple vehicles to catch fire. The blast reportedly occurred due to an improvised explosive device (IED) detonating, jolting the peace in one of Delhi’s busiest heritage zones. Fortunately, however, there have been no fatalities reported.

Police and fire services, as well as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the scene of the blast quickly. Investigators and forensic experts collected burnt material and CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators responsible. Officials confirmed that the blast demonstrated the hallmarks of a planned terror attack attempt.

Faridabad Recovery: Nearly 3,000 Kg of Explosives and Weapons

Hours after the Red Fort explosion, Haryana Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosive material — including ammonium nitrate — from a medical college in Faridabad. Shockingly, police arrested two doctors and their accomplices, in addition to the assault rifles and pistols they recovered from the suspects.

The arrestees give the impression that there is some terrorist network that is trying to operate in the Delhi-NCR area. Investigators are now working to figure out the origin of the explosive materials and the targets they may have had in the national capital.

Asim Munir’s Advancement Comes with a Geopolitical Angle

At the same time, these concerning incidents followed the promotion of Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, an event that has not gone unnoticed by India’s intelligence community. While officials purposely avoid drawing the connection, experts note that the timing and concurrent nature could be an intentional provocation.

According to former intelligence officials, such concurrent events often serve as “psychological signals” in the context of geopolitical friction. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), however, has said to exercise caution: “It is important that investigations remain fact-based, not speculative.”

Increased Security Across Delhi-NCR

Following two significant incidents in a span of 48 hours, security across Delhi and NCR has been significantly increased. Police and additional paramilitary forces have been deployed to sensitive sites, including metro stations in the region and markets.

Multiple agencies are examining digital footprints of communication, money transfers, and cross border movements. The primary question that looms over investigators is whether the two incidents are connected or in isolation.

As a senior officer remarked, “The coincidences are too strong to ignore, but the evidence must lead the story.”
