Actor and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has expressed shock after receiving an electricity bill of ₹1 lakh for her residence in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. The actor-turned-politician shared that the bill was issued for a house where she currently does not live, questioning how such a hefty amount could be justified.
Criticism Directed at Himachal Pradesh Government
During a recent political event in Mandi, Kangana raised the issue on stage and strongly criticised the Himachal Pradesh government over the excessive electricity charges. A video of her remarks has since gone viral on social media.
Kangana said, “Iss mahine mere Manali ka ghar ka ₹1 lakh bijli ka bill aaya, jaha main rehti bhi nahi hoon. Itni durdasha ki hui hai… Hum padhte hai aur sharmindagi hoti hai ke yeh kya ho raha hai…”
Public Reaction and Political Undertones
Her statement has sparked debate online, with some netizens questioning the billing system, while others see political undertones in her comments. As a newly elected MP from Mandi, Kangana’s remarks come at a time when state governance and infrastructure issues are under scrutiny.
Demands for Transparency in Billing Process
Following Kangana’s remarks, several locals and social media users echoed her concerns, demanding greater transparency and accountability from the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB). Questions are being raised about the accuracy of meter readings, possible technical errors, and lack of oversight in billing procedures. Some have even called for an official inquiry into how bills of such magnitude are being generated, especially for properties that are reportedly unoccupied.
Political Rivals React to Kangana’s Allegation
Kangana's strong statement has also stirred reactions from political opponents, some of whom have accused her of dramatizing the issue for publicity. A few leaders from rival parties questioned whether she had followed the proper complaint channels before going public. However, her supporters defended her, saying she was simply using her platform to highlight a common issue faced by many residents in the state.
