Indo-China border: A six-km-long tunnel will be constructed between Bundi and Gurbiyang on the Ghatiabagar-Lipulekh road in Uttarakhand, making way for the last border post of the Lipulekh pass on the India-China border smoother. The project worth Rs 2000 crore could begin in four-five years.
Six-km-long tunnel on Indo-China border
To make the last border post of the Lipulekh pass on the India-China border smoother, a six-km-long tunnel will be constructed between Bundi and Garbiyan will be built on the Ghatiabagar-Lipulekh road in Uttarakhand, a BRO officer said.
"The contract for the survey work of the tunnel has been awarded to ATINOK India Consultants. The company has started the survey work and will submit its final proposal in a year's time," Chief Engineer of Project Hirak Vimal Goswami said.
“The BRO has kept the border road from Bundi to Garbiyang single lane in view of the proposed tunnel, while the rest of It is going to be double lane,” he said.
The official further share that formation-cutting work on the five-km-long last portion of the road from the KMVN huts to the Lipulekh pass is awaiting permission. He added that it could be completed in 100 days once the government gives its nod.
Focus on strategic roads on Indo-China border
Recently, BRO chief Rajeev Chaudhry said that the focus is on strategic roads on Indo-China border.
“We are Woking in extreme weather conditions. We are focusing on strategic roads, airfields, and tunnels on the China border for our forces to transport heavy equipment,” he said.
