Kerala Police

The Kerala police on Saturday shared a heart-wrenching apology after concluding an overnight search for missing five-year-old girl that ended with the recovery of her body from a dump site in the state’s Ernakulam district. The girl was sexually assualted and strangled to death by the man who kidnapped her. The man had reportedly moved to her building only a few days ago, officials said.

‘Sorry daughter’

The Kerala Police in a tweet wrote, “Sorry daughter” after recovering the body of five-year-old. “Our efforts to bring her alive to her parents were unsuccessful. The suspect who kidnapped the child was arrested,” the post read.

Accused arrested

Police had arrested the accused last night after obtaining CCTV footage of the area. However, the interrogation was delayed since he was in an inebriated state, the officials said. Meanwhile, a massive search operation was conducted overnight to bring the child back to her parents.

The Opposition Congress has alleged lapses on the part of the police in tracing the child. V D Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition, said the police failed in taking prompt action despite knowing about the accused.

Police denies delay in search

“The girl went missing around 3 pm and she was sexually assaulted and killed by 5:30 pm. The parents lodged a complaint around 7:10 pm. Based on this, an FIR was registered by 8 pm and the accused was arrested by 9:30 pm. But he was too inebriated to answer any question that night. It’s unfortunate that the police are being accused of a delay,” the police said.
