Supreme Court gives notice to Delhi Police on Wrestlers’ FIR plea against WFI president

Supreme Court: On a petition seeking to file a FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan, the Supreme Court on Tuesday gave notice to Delhi Police. Today, the court heard the appeal made by seven wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat and others, asking the Supreme Court to order the filing of a FIR against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The petition filed by wrestlers who have represented India contains significant allegations, a bench of the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha remarked. On Friday, the court will discuss the issue once more.

  • Phogat and other wrestlers allegedly cited an excessive delay in the Delhi Police’s filing of a FIR against the WFI chief.
  • They had pleaded with the top court to order the police to file a complaint against him.

Gold medalist sobbed in front of reporters.

At Jantar Mantar in central Delhi earlier on Sunday, Olympian wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Phogat, and other top Indian grapplers resumed their protest against the WFI chairman. Phogat, a gold medalist in the Asian and Commonwealth Games, sobbed in front of reporters. She had previously claimed Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh had harassed her mentally, adding that she had even thought about committing herself.
