Telangana Municipal Election Results 2026: The 2026 Telangana Municipal Elections witnessed an extensive civic exercise across 116 municipalities, covering approximately 2,582–2,586 wards. Polling took place on February 11, with vote counting conducted on February 12 and 13.
The elections were seen as a crucial test of urban sentiment, with major political players — the Indian National Congress, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, and Bharatiya Janata Party — vying for dominance across urban local bodies.
Congress Dominance in Results
Early counting trends indicated a strong surge for Congress, which quickly crossed the 400-ward mark and eventually secured over 500 wards statewide. Reports suggest the party touched 511 seats overall, consolidating control in several municipalities.
DON'T MISS
Congress registered emphatic victories in key towns such as Sulthanabad (winning 12 of 15 wards) and Aswaraopeta (17 of 22 wards). These results reflected a broad urban mandate in favour of the party’s governance and civic development agenda.
The scale of the victory positions Congress firmly at the helm of multiple urban local bodies, significantly strengthening its grassroots administrative reach.
Party Performances: BRS and BJP Trail
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi emerged as the second-largest performer, with figures ranging between 140 and 283 wards across different reporting stages. The BJP, meanwhile, secured between 37 and 51 wards, struggling to match Congress’s pace in urban centres.
Independents and smaller parties accounted for the remaining seats, but none posed a substantial challenge to Congress’s lead.
By midday on February 13, Congress had already crossed the 240-word declaration mark, signalling early control and setting the tone for what turned into a decisive sweep.
High Command Reaction and Political Implications
Celebrations erupted at Gandhi Bhavan as party workers burst crackers and hailed the performance as a sign of growing urban confidence. While no official statement explicitly confirmed the high command’s reaction, party insiders described the mood as optimistic and energised.
The results are being viewed as a major morale booster for Congress in Telangana’s civic landscape, reinforcing its organisational strength and potentially shaping future electoral strategies in the state.
