In a significant political development that may spark internal unrest within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, senior party MLA and Goshamahal legislator T. Raja Singh has resigned from the party’s primary membership. The move comes amid media reports indicating that senior leader Ramchander Rao is set to be appointed as the new Telangana BJP President.
T. Raja Singh submitted a strongly-worded resignation letter addressed to BJP Telangana President G. Kishan Reddy, expressing “shock and disappointment” at the leadership’s reported decision. In the letter dated June 30, 2025, Singh said the move has “pained lakhs of BJP Karyakartas” and questioned the direction of the party at a crucial political juncture.
'This Is Not About Personal Ambition': Raja Singh
Raja Singh, who has been elected thrice from the Goshamahal constituency, alleged that the central leadership may have been misled by individuals “running the show from behind the curtain.” He said the reported appointment reflects a disconnect with the party's grassroots and ignores the hard work and sacrifices of senior leaders and dedicated workers in the state.
“This is not about personal ambition,” he wrote. “This letter reflects the pain and frustration of lakhs of loyal BJP Karyakartas and supporters who feel sidelined and unheard.”
Setback for BJP’s Telangana Push?
The resignation could prove damaging for the BJP in Telangana, especially at a time when the party has been aggressively positioning itself as a key contender for power in the next assembly elections. Singh warned that the current approach may push the party into “avoidable setbacks” and described the reported decision as one that “undermines the sacrifices of grassroots workers.”
He also urged G. Kishan Reddy to inform the Hon’ble Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly of his resignation from the BJP, though he has not clarified whether he would resign from the assembly itself.
BJP Yet to React Officially
As of now, the BJP has not issued an official statement in response to Raja Singh’s resignation. However, insiders suggest the leadership may initiate dialogue to address internal grievances before making any formal announcements about the new state chief.
This unfolding episode may expose deepening rifts within the Telangana BJP and adds pressure on the central leadership to recalibrate its strategy ahead of the upcoming polls.
