Tirupati Laddu Controversy: As the controversy surrounding the alleged use of animal fat in the Tirupati Laddu prasadam intensifies, renowned author Chetan Bhagat has entered the conversation with a provocative statement. Chetan Bhagat, known for his social commentary, took to X (formerly Twitter) to urge the public to focus on pressing national issues such as air pollution, potholes, and poor healthcare. However, what really stirred reactions was his remark on the production of white sugar, claiming that it is made using animal bones.
Chetan Bhagat’s Criticism of Public Focus
In his tweet, Bhagat pointed out that while the controversy over the alleged use of animal fat in the Tirupati laddu prasadam has ignited strong reactions, there are other significant issues that demand the same level of public attention. He stated, “Air pollution. Potholes. Not enough college seats. Paper leaks. Poor healthcare. Please enrage on all these as much as alleged Prasad contamination at a particular temple.”
White Sugar and the Animal Bone Process
In a surprising addition to his message, Bhagat also remarked on the widespread consumption of white sugar, stating, “Btw white sugar is made white with a process involving charred animal bones. Goes in most sweet items.”
Mixed Reactions from Netizens
Chetan Bhagat’s tweet ignited a flurry of responses from netizens, with people reacting both critically and defensively. One user stated, “Whenever Hindus have some religious issues Pfizer agents remember potholes and poor healthcare. When STSJ happens for FB posts and cartoons then oh why did you hurt their religious feelings.”
Others did not hold back from directly attacking Chetan Bhagat’s work, with another user remarking: “Your garbage books damaged society more than anything in this world.”
The discussion also turned factual, with some questioning Bhagat’s statement about sugar production. One user demanded evidence: “Please share the evidence about the white sugar process which involves charred animal bones.”
Another user, claiming to be an investor in sugar mills, refuted Bhagat’s claim: “No, I am an investor in a few sugar mills, that’s absolutely garbage. They use carbonation, sulphitation/ion-exchange resins to achieve the same. Don’t color everyone with the same brush.”
