Uttarakhand News: In Haridwar, Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall led to a bus becoming trapped in a river with approximately 53 passengers onboard. The passengers worked together to make their way to the riverbank and were assisted by a suspended rope to reach the bridge. Police has confirmed the successful rescue of all passengers from the stranded bus.

Bus stranded due to flooding

This year, the hill state experienced substantial rainfall, resulting in landslides and flash floods that affected Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. These relentless rains have caused significant damage, disrupting the lives of residents and adversely impacting the tourism industry in both regions.

The bus, traveling from Nepalganj Rupediya to Haridwar, primarily carried passengers of Nepali origin. The bus became trapped in the river en route due to a sudden rise in water levels caused by heavy rain. Vinod Thapliyal, the chief of Shyampur police station, received the information and confirmed the successful rescue of all passengers, emphasizing that the elevated river water level was the reason for the bus becoming stuck.

After enduring sweltering heat for the past two days, the weather has now turned milder in most parts of the state, accompanied by rainfall. While the rain has brought relief from the oppressive humidity, it has also led to waterlogging issues in various areas. Today, there’s a likelihood of heavy rain in many parts of the state, particularly in Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, Chamoli, and Bageshwar, where Director of the Meteorological Center Bikram Singh has issued a yellow alert due to the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Light to moderate showers are expected in other districts as well.
