Uttarakhand News: Government Nursing College Dove (Shrikot) has been renamed in honour of the adolescent who was reportedly murdered by the proprietor of a resort in Rishikesh where she worked as a receptionist, according to an announcement made by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday.
Safety and Respect for Daughters of the State
CM Dhami posted on X (formerly Twitter): "We stand with the family and are determined to ensure the respect and safety of every daughter of the state." Six days after going missing, on September 24, 2017, the 19-year-old girl's body was found in Rishikesh's Chilla barrage.
Unrest in Rishikesh's Vicinity Leads to Action
Violence-filled demonstrations broke out in the resort's neighbourhood as well as in the Tehri and Pauri Garhwal regions, with protesters obstructing the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway for many hours. As soon as CM promised justice, the roadblock was lifted. The government established a SIT to look into the situation, and Pulkit Arya, owner of the resort and son of political figure Vinod Arya, was detained as a result. After a fight, Arya is accused of pushing the girl into the canal. Additionally detained in the case were Ankit Gupta and Saurabh Bhaskar.
