38th National Games 2025 Conclude in Uttarakhand with Grand Ceremony

The 38th National Games came to a grand conclusion in Uttarakhand with a closing ceremony held at the International Sports Complex in Haldwani on Friday, February 14. The event was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, among other dignitaries.

Uttarakhand: From ‘Devbhoomi’ to ‘Khelbhoomi’

Speaking at the ceremony, Amit Shah emphasized the transformation of Uttarakhand into a sporting hub. He stated that the state’s growing sports infrastructure and the remarkable performances of its athletes have turned ‘Devbhoomi’ (Land of Gods) into ‘Khelbhoomi’ (Land of Sports). He praised the state government’s efforts in promoting sports at the district level and acknowledged the athletes who won medals for Uttarakhand.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya described the National Games as the beginning of India’s journey toward becoming a global sports hub. He highlighted the importance of learning from competition, referencing legendary warrior Arjun to inspire the athletes. Mandaviya expressed confidence in India's sporting future under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A Successful Multi-City Event

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the guests and recalled the inauguration of the Games by Prime Minister Modi on January 28 in Dehradun. The Games, which lasted 18 days, were hosted across six cities—Haridwar, Nainital, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Shivpuri, and New Tehri—alongside Dehradun.

The event saw participation from around 10,000 athletes and officials representing 38 teams. Some of India's top athletes, including Olympic medallists Lovlina Borgohain (boxing), Swapnil Kusale, Sarabjot Singh, and Vijay Kumar (shooting), showcased their skills. The Games featured Olympic sports such as athletics, wrestling, swimming, hockey, boxing, badminton, weightlifting, football, tennis, and table tennis, along with demonstration sports.

With Uttarakhand successfully hosting the event, the state has strengthened its position in India's sporting landscape, paving the way for future national and international competitions.
