Ankita Bhandari Case: ‘Justice Must Be Transparent and Sensitive’ Says CM Dhami While Backing CBI Probe on Parents’ Request

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has recommended a CBI inquiry into the Ankita Bhandari case, stating that justice must be fair, transparent, and sensitive while respecting the sentiments of her family.

uttrakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said the government’s priority is to ensure a fast, fair, and sensitive investigation in the Ankita Bhandari case.

Swift Action After the Tragic Incident

Following the incident involving Ankita Bhandari, Chief Minister Dhami stated that the state government promptly responded by creating a Special Investigation Team under the leadership of an Indian Police Service officer. The Chief Minister also assured the public that there will be no political influence over the ongoing investigation and reiterated the state’s commitment to providing justice.

Arrest of Accused and Strong Legal Action

The Chief Minister said all accused in the Ankita Bhandari case were arrested without delay, and strong legal action was ensured. None of the accused received bail during the investigation or trial, and after the SIT completed its probe, charge sheets were filed and the case moved swiftly through the legal process.

Life Imprisonment Awarded by the Trial Court

The trial court awarded life imprisonment to the accused. CM Dhami stated that this outcome demonstrated the government’s commitment to delivering justice and holding the guilty accountable under the law.

Why the Government Backed a CBI Probe?

Acknowledging the persistent concerns and the request made by Ankita Bhandari’s parents, the Chief Minister announced the recommendation for a CBI investigation. He said the move was taken to ensure that no doubt, question, or suspicion remains unanswered. The CM stressed that the decision was not driven by pressure but by the belief that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done. A central agency probe, he added, would further strengthen public trust in the justice system.

Public Sentiment and Demand for Transparency

The Ankita Bhandari case has remained a powerful symbol of public anger, grief, and the demand for accountability. Over the years, citizens, activists, and civil society groups have consistently called for transparency, fairness, and safety for women
