Uttarakhand: Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former governor of Maharashtra, recently stated that he is returning to Uttarakhand to eat kafals, citing cultural similarities between the two states. He said that Marathi has over a hundred words from the Pahadi language, and people in rural areas of Maharashtra are calm like the people of Uttarakhand. He also noted the similarity of names in both states, with Deshpande in Maharashtra and Pandey in Uttarakhand, and Raut in Maharashtra and Rawat in Uttarakhand. Koshyari was recently replaced by Ramesh Bais as the new governor of Maharashtra, having served the state for over three years.
Controversies and Desire to Quit
The Rashtrapati Bhavan announced the appointment of 12 governors and one lieutenant governor in Ladakh. Koshyari, who expressed his desire to be discharged of his duties to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, has been replaced as governor of Maharashtra. In a series of tweets, he expressed gratitude for his time as governor and his desire to spend his remaining days reading, writing, and engaging in other activities.
Outrage over Comments on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Koshyari had previously caused controversy when he referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a revered figure in Maharashtra, as an "old icon" during a speech at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad. Koshyari's comment about cultural similarities between Maharashtra and Uttarakhand is notable, as he served as the governor of Maharashtra for over three years. The announcement of his replacement comes amid his expressed desire to leave his position, which he conveyed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.
