Chamoli Cloudburst: Nandanagar Ghat Devastated ! 7 People Missing, Homes Swept Away, Check Latest Weather Update

Cloudburst buries 6 houses in Chamoli’s Nandanagar Ghat. Seven missing, two rescued. Rescue ops in full swing as heavy rain warning issued.

Late Wednesday night, a strong cloudburst hit the Kuntri Langafali area of Nandanagar Ghat in the Chamoli district. The heavy rain caused a huge debris flow that covered six homes in mud and rocks. Seven people are still missing, and only two have been found so far.

District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the local police, and the district government have been sent to help with rescue, relief, and ground response.

To clear the area and look for lost people, ambulances, medical teams, and heavy equipment like JCBs are being used.

Weather and danger alerts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says that Chamoli and nearby districts will get more heavy rain, which raises the risk of more landslides, debris flows, and flash floods.

The ground is still very unstable, especially since parts of Nandanagar have sunk, causing cracks to appear in houses. A lot of people who lived in dangerous areas had already been moved.

More widespread effects and urgent needs

  • The heavy rains have also damaged the roads, making it hard for rescue teams to get to people who need help.
  • Relief centers have been set up to house and help locals who have been forced to leave their homes.
  • A lot of people are afraid because this place is one of the worst hit by Uttarakhand’s ongoing monsoon disasters. This season, the area has been hit by similar cloudbursts and floods more than once.

What to Watch and How to Get Ready

  • News about people who have been saved and whether the lost are safe and found.
  • How officials react and whether IMD’s alerts get stronger (red/orange zones).
  • Rain can cause roadblocks or infrastructure to fall, which can cut off affected areas.
  • People will have to leave high-risk areas if the rain keeps coming down.
