The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand has been suspended for two days amid heavy rainfall and snowfall in parts of the state. The decision comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red and orange alerts for several districts, citing the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rain.

Snowfall has been reported in high-altitude areas, including the Kedarnath and Badrinath regions, while several parts of Uttarakhand are experiencing persistent rainfall. The weather conditions have also affected road connectivity in mountainous areas.
Heavy Rain and Snowfall Disrupt Uttarakhand
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Uttarakhand on September 26 and 27. Red alerts have been issued for districts including Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar, while several Garhwal districts have been placed under orange alerts.
The weather department has also forecast snowfall at locations situated at elevations above 4,000 metres.
Char Dham Yatra Put on Hold
The pilgrimage has been suspended from September 27 to September 28 in view of the adverse weather conditions and concerns over pilgrim safety. Officials said the yatra will resume once weather conditions improve.
The IMD’s Char Dham forecast has also indicated rain or thundershowers across several pilgrimage routes, including the sectors leading to Kedarnath and Badrinath.
Landslide and Road Disruptions in Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh has also been affected by the continuing rainfall. Reports from the district said falling boulders and debris disrupted traffic on the All-Weather Road, with large numbers of vehicles becoming stranded on both sides of affected stretches.
The latest weather spell has therefore created challenges for both pilgrims and other travellers across Uttarakhand, particularly in vulnerable mountainous areas.
