Dehradun News: Lawyer in dhoti-kurta denied entry to club

Dehradun News

Dehradun News: On Saturday, a senior advocate was denied entry to the elite Dehradun Club because of his attire. He was wearing a dhoti, kurta, and topi, which the club claimed did not adhere to their established dress code.

Manmohan Kandwal, the nine-time president of the Dehradun District Bar Association, objected, but club executives assured him that the issue will be discussed at the following board meeting.

Club’s president said, “The Dehradun Club is a private entity governed by the Registrar of Companies. We have bye-laws which are to be followed. Since the issue has been raised, the matter will be discussed in the next board meeting and a decision will be taken based on majority vote.”

Kandwal to send Legal notice:

Kandwal told media that he will “soon be sending a notice to the club since this was a matter involving one’s dignity which needs to be discussed and resolved at the earliest.” “When dhoti-kurta is allowed in Parliament, then why not in clubs and hotels? This club came up during the British times. It has been over 75 years since independence but the colonial mindset persists even today. No bye-law can be above the Constitution of India,” he added.
