In the recently released rankings by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on Thursday, Dehradun has demonstrated a noteworthy improvement by securing the 68th position in Swachh Survekshan 2023, up from its 69th position last year. The picturesque hill capital achieved a score of 6,579 out of 9,500, maintaining its status as the cleanest city in the state.

However, the overall performance of Uttarakhand has experienced a decline, dropping from the 3rd position to the 19th position this year. Expressing optimism, Chief Health Officer of Dehradun, Dr. Avinash Khanna, stated, "We were aiming for a place among the top 60 cities, and while this is still an improvement, we acknowledge the need to focus on specific areas that require further attention."

Despite the positive strides made by the capital, the downturn in the state's overall performance underscores the importance of addressing challenges at a broader level. The authorities are determined to channel efforts towards enhancing cleanliness and sanitation across the region.
