Haldwani Encroachment Removal: The Supreme Court has heard the case about encroachment on Indian Railway property in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The illegal occupation of around 32 hectares of railway property has been removed, per an order from the Uttarakhand High Court. The Supreme Court will hear a challenge to the high court’s judgement on Thursday. Following the high court’s ruling, the local government is working hard to get the encroachment removed. The demolition effort was supposed to begin on January 5, 2023, but it was postponed after a Supreme Court appeal. Everyone is currently anticipating the Supreme Court’s ruling. According to reports, the eradication of illegal occupation of railway land will have an impact on almost 50,000 people.

Haldwani Encroachment Removal

In Banbhulpura, Haldwani, the railways have been encroached upon by about 32 hectares. On this area, Basti has made his home. This land was to be free from encroachment following the high court’s ruling, but the high court’s ruling was contested at the Supreme Court. On the other hand, the Uttarakhand Police and the local government began preparations to remove the illegal occupation after the high court’s judgement. Now, though, it has been decided to hold off until the Supreme Court rules on this issue. The demolition campaign, which was supposed to start on January 5 but has been delayed until January 10, 2023. Additionally, Banbhulpura has been inspected by railroad officials.

There are five wards and about 25,000 voters in the 78-acre region, according to locals.

There are around 5,000 old people, pregnant women, and kids. Following the High Court’s decision from December 20 requesting that persons remove their household belongings by January 9, notices were published in newspapers. 30 SDM-rank officers and 10 ADMs have been assigned by the administration to oversee the procedure.

Since 1910, numerous families have resided in the “occupied parts” of the colonies in Banbhulpura known as Gafoor Basti, Dholak Basti, and Indira Nagar. There are four public schools, ten private schools, one bank, four temples, two mazars, a cemetery, and ten mosques in the neighbourhood. Over the past few decades, these have been constructed. A community health centre and a government primary school, both of which are claimed to be older than 100 years, are also located in Banbhulpura.
