After the matter came to the regular police, the investigation of the case gained momentum

After the Ankita Bhandari murder case came to the fore, the demand to end the British rule in the state gained momentum. It was alleged that due to the revenue system, the complaint was filed with great delay in this matter. After which the investigation of the case gained momentum after the matter came to the regular police. In such a situation, it was decided to hand over the work of revenue police to the regular police. Uttarakhand is the only state in India where more than 50 percent of the areas still have revenue police system. After the Ankita murder case, once again questions were raised on this system, then the state government has taken a step in this direction. Now the government is going to end it in a phased manner. After the Ankita Bhandari case came to the fore, once again questions are being raised on the revenue police system of the British era implemented in Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand is the only state in the country, where even today the employees and officers of the Revenue Department like Patwari, Lekhpal, Kanungo and Naib Tehsildar.

Even today there is no police station or police outpost in 61% areas of Uttarakhand

According to media reports, there is no police station or police outpost in 61 percent areas of Uttarakhand. That is, more than half of the state's area does not come under the jurisdiction of the Uttarakhand Police. In case of any kind of crime, Patwari, Lekhpal, Kanungo and Naib Tehsildar. They neither have a force nor are they given training for policing. Due to which the victim does not get justice many times after the crime has been committed. In 1861 the Police Act was implemented. The plain areas were taken over by the police system. But the remote difficult hilly areas were kept away from this system. Even after separation from Uttar Pradesh in the year 2000, the state continued the revenue police system. When the matter of Revenue Police reached the Uttarakhand High Court, in the year 2018, the High Court had ordered to completely abolish the system of Revenue Police. A division bench of Justice Rajeev Sharma and Justice Alok Singh ordered the abolition of the revenue police system within six months and bringing all areas under the jurisdiction of the state police. Even after so many years of the order, no effective action has been taken in that direction. Now in view of the Ankita murder case coming to the fore and public pressure, the Dhami government has taken this big decision.
