Uttarakhand makes forced religious conversions as a non bailable cognizable offence

The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase the punishment for those convicted of forced conversions in the anti-conversion law to 10 years. This approval was given in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Uttarakhand government has made forced religious conversions in the State as a non bailable cognizable offence.

Official sources said here that the Uttarakhand Religion Freedom Act was enacted in the state in 2018 under the right to freedom of religion, but in view of the changed circumstances at present, to make it more empowered, the proposal to amend it like Uttar Pradesh has been approved. given.

He told that under this amendment, considering forced conversion as a cognizable offense, a provision of imprisonment of 10 years is proposed. Sources said that in the 2018 Act, there is a provision of punishment of up to five years if found guilty of forced conversion.

Cabinet also approved in principle the proposal to shift the Uttarakhand High Court from Nainital to Haldwani

Sources said that this amendment will soon be brought in the state assembly. Apart from this, the cabinet also approved in principle the proposal to shift the Uttarakhand High Court from Nainital to Haldwani.

Proposal to make ‘Om’ artwork approved in Kedarnath Dham

In the meeting, approval was also accorded to form a joint venture between THDC (India) Limited and UJVN Limited with 74:26 shareholding to make the state’s hydropower projects commercial and viable. Apart from this, the cabinet also gave its approval to the proposal to make a special type of ‘Om’ artwork at Kedarnath Dham ‘Eravile Plaza’.
