As the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 completes five years, Uttarakhand Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat highlighted major educational reforms and innovations introduced across the state in alignment with NEP's vision. Addressing the media on the eve of NEP’s fifth anniversary, Dr. Rawat said the state has made significant progress in expanding e-education, reducing academic burden, and focusing on skill-based learning.
Major Achievements Under NEP in Uttarakhand
Dr. Rawat informed that 45,000 teachers have been trained under the new pedagogical approaches outlined in NEP. The state also became the first in the country to initiate Bal Vatikas (pre-primary classes) in 5,639 Anganwadi centres, providing them with essential infrastructure and learning facilities.
In a notable innovation, toy-based learning has been introduced in over 11,000 schools, enhancing classroom engagement for younger students. Additionally, 22,000 basic education teachers have been equipped with tablets to ensure smooth adoption of e-learning modules.
Strengthening Digital Infrastructure in Schools
The Education Minister emphasized the state's commitment to digital transformation. So far:
500 virtual classrooms and
1,680 hybrid-mode classrooms
have been set up in 1,340 schools, enabling blended learning models.
A centralized studio has also been established to conduct live and recorded classes across the state.
Furthermore, 2,587 smart classrooms are being established to provide interactive and technology-driven education.
AI-Based Assessment and Vidya Samiksha Kendra
One of the key highlights of the reforms is the launch of an AI-powered Vidya Samiksha Kendra, aimed at developing a robust evaluation system to track student learning outcomes and monitor classroom effectiveness. According to Director (Education) B. G. R. Jyala, Uttarakhand is implementing NEP with a blend of national curriculum standards and state-specific innovations, ensuring holistic and contextual learning for children.
Looking Ahead
Dr. Rawat reaffirmed the state's dedication to transforming its education system through innovation, inclusivity, and integration of modern tools, adding that the state is on a path to become a model for NEP implementation nationwide.
