In one of the latest news stories in Sultanpur village in Laksar region of Haridwar, the local construction of a mosque has been halted by the local authorities. This follows the complaints by residents that the height of the structure contravenes government building regulations.
Why Was the Construction Stopped?
Haridwar District Magistrate (DM) Mayur Dixit was prompt in acting on the orders of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami after they were approached with complaints alleging the height of the mosque. The administration investigated the issue in response to video footage and public outrage. DM Dixit instructed the SDM of Laksar to inspect the mosque's management and assess all relevant paperwork, land records, and the approved construction map. A sit-down with the mosque committee was held, and in response to the same, the management issued an order to halt the construction until further clarification.
What Triggered the Action?
The issue received attention following video recordings and complaints to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who alleged that the mosque's minars were up to 250 feet high, a height not seen in any other surrounding building. Following the apprehensions, Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit issued a stop-construction order forthwith and had directed the SDM Laksar to cross-check all requisite papers, including land papers and land allotment maps of approved construction.
Investigation Underway
According to the last source of Uttarakhand News, an official inquiry is now being carried out. The management has informed authorities that they have voluntarily halted building activities and are willing to cooperate by providing all necessary documents. DM Dixit revealed that the primary problem is an oddly high building that one cannot overlook because the scale of other buildings in the area is low.
