In a major development under the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Railway Project, the Karnaprayag Railway Station is set to undergo further expansion. Keeping in view its strategic importance, authorities have decided to increase the number of railway tracks from 22 to 26.
To accommodate these changes, the Railway Development Corporation has issued tenders worth ₹611 crore, and construction work is expected to begin soon.
Officials confirmed that the decision to expand Karnaprayag Railway Station is based on its military significance. The additional railway tracks will enhance logistical operations and improve connectivity in the region.
Earlier, the station was planned to have 22 tracks, but now four more tracks will be constructed. These four tracks will be built inside two tunnels, which will also be constructed as part of the project. Additionally, a road tunnel will be developed to facilitate goods transportation and link the two railway tunnels.
The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line includes three major stations:
✅ Karnaprayag – The largest station with 26 tracks, including four passenger platforms and one goods platform.
✅ Yognagari – Equipped with 18 tracks and three passenger platforms.
✅ Srinagar – Features five tracks, four passenger platforms, and one goods platform.
Other railway stations along the route have two to three tracks each.
13 Railway Stations in the Project, Construction to Begin Soon
The Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line will feature 13 stations in total. While work on the Veerbhadra and Yognagari stations has been completed, train services are operational up to Yognagari.
