Reports have highlighted instances of journeys taking considerably longer than usual because of heavy vehicle movement and limited road capacity in the hilly areas.
The development of alternative routes and bypass roads is part of the broader effort to improve traffic management in the region. Officials have also discussed measures such as road widening, improved parking facilities and changes to traffic movement around Kainchi Dham to reduce congestion during peak tourist periods.
