Uttarakhand News: In recent days, Uttarakhand residents are grappling with power cuts, intensified by a prolonged dry spell that has led to a 50% reduction in power generation. Cities like Rudrapur, Kashipur, Roorkee, Dehradun, Vikasnagar, Rishikesh, and Haldwani are witnessing electricity shortages, causing distress among consumers.
Supply Shortfall Hits Rudrapur
Rudrapur, supplied with 8 MU of electricity daily by the power distribution sector, is experiencing a 10% decline in supply. In rural areas, power cuts of 2 to 3 hours daily are becoming a regular occurrence, adding to the challenges faced by consumers during the biting cold.
Weather Impact and Increased Demand
The current weather conditions indicate a maximum temperature of 10.5 and a minimum of 4.7 degrees Celsius in the district. The Agriculture and Technology University's weather department forecasts a dry spell for the upcoming days. The reduced production has led to a 10% deficit in electricity supply compared to demand, exacerbating the ongoing power crisis.
Uttarakhand Power Corporation's Junior Engineer, Yogesh Kumar, highlighted that there is no information available regarding the duration of the industrial sector's power cuts. Entrepreneurs like Devendra Jindal expressed concerns about the lack of advance notice about power cuts, making it challenging for businesses to plan and manage operations efficiently.
