Uttarakhand News: In response to growing frustration among residents of Dumak village in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand authorities have committed to completing the under-construction road connecting Dumak and neighboring villages before the end of the year. The project, which was initiated 17 years ago, has faced repeated delays, prompting concerns among villagers who threatened to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Following a report published in TOI highlighting the villagers’ grievances, the Uttarakhand Rural Roads Development Agency (URRDA) CEO Kamrendra Singh issued a statement assuring that the pending work on the road will be finished within the next eight months. The road construction, crucial for connectivity along the Indo-China border, has faced challenges including alignment changes caused by landslides.

With hopes of the road’s completion by year-end, Dumak village residents have expressed relief following the assurance from URRDA. The village had previously threatened to boycott the Lok Sabha elections due to the prolonged delay in the road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Despite significant expenditure, the project remained unfinished, leading to frustration among villagers.
