The Uttarakhand government informed ANI that a total of 274 stranded tourists from various states were successfully rescued from Gangotri and surrounding areas and brought to Harsil. The rescue comes amid continuous rainfall and landslides in the region that have disrupted normal life and blocked access routes.
Breakdown of Rescued Tourists
According to official data, the rescued individuals include 131 people from Gujarat, 123 from Maharashtra, 21 from Madhya Pradesh, 12 from Uttar Pradesh, 6 from Rajasthan, 7 from Delhi, 5 each from Assam and Karnataka, 3 from Telangana, and 1 from Punjab. All of them have been reported safe.
Medical and Logistical Support Arranged
Officials said that the rescued tourists were provided immediate medical assistance, food, and shelter at Harsil. Medical teams were deployed to conduct health check-ups and offer necessary treatment. “All tourists are in good health, and there are no reports of injuries,” a district administration official confirmed.
Evacuation to Dehradun Underway
Arrangements are being made to transport all the rescued individuals to Dehradun. The state government has deployed buses and other vehicles for safe transit. Helicopter services may also be used if weather conditions permit.
CM Monitors Situation Closely
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is personally monitoring the rescue efforts and has instructed authorities to remain on high alert across the Char Dham route. The state disaster response force (SDRF), along with the army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), continues to operate in high-risk zones.
Appeal to Pilgrims and Tourists
In light of the ongoing adverse weather conditions, the Uttarakhand government has issued an advisory asking pilgrims and tourists to avoid travel to sensitive hill areas until conditions improve. Authorities are closely monitoring river water levels and potential landslide zones.
