Aam Aadmi Party leader Anurag Dhanda has questioned the Uttar Pradesh government over an incident in which Meerut SSP Avinash Pandey was seen allegedly slapping a man inside a police prisoner transport vehicle. The incident has sparked political criticism and renewed debate over police conduct.

Referring to visuals of the incident, Dhanda asked why the senior police officer had not been suspended, alleging that the lack of action raised questions about accountability. He further alleged that the incident involved a caste angle, claiming that the man who was allegedly assaulted, identified as Ravi Gautam, belongs to the Dalit community, while the police officer is a Brahmin.

AAP leader questioned whether the state government remained committed to the principles of the Constitution drafted under Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He urged the government to ensure equal treatment before the law and take appropriate action if any misconduct by public officials is established.

The Uttar Pradesh government and Meerut Police had not immediately responded to Dhanda’s remarks at the time of the statement.
