For the first time, bikes, tractors, and autos will be required to pay toll tax on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, as per the latest decision by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA). The toll charges will be collected in cash, especially for vehicles without FASTag, and all three categories—bikes, autos, and tractors—will be charged the same toll rate.

Vehicle owners can also opt for a pass system, but it will be valid for only 20 trips. UPIDA has fixed the toll rates based on the distance between toll plazas and the structure of the vehicle. These rates are currently being installed into the toll booth systems along the expressway.

Toll Rates for Bhagwanpur to Chaudah Paras Section

For the stretch between Bhagwanpur and Chaudah Paras toll plaza, the toll charges are as follows:

Bike/Auto/Tractor: ₹140 one-way, ₹230 for a round trip

Car/Jeep/Van: ₹285 one-way, ₹455 round trip

Mini Bus: ₹440 one-way, ₹705 round trip

Bus/Truck: ₹840 one-way, ₹1345 round trip

3 to 6 Axle Vehicles: ₹1335 one-way, ₹2140 round trip

Vehicles with more than 7 Axles: ₹1745 one-way, ₹2790 round trip

The new toll structure aims to bring uniformity and regulation to all types of vehicles using the expressway. Authorities have urged vehicle owners to install FASTag to avoid delays and ensure smoother toll payments.

New Toll Policy Targets Revenue and Regulation

The move to include two- and three-wheelers, tractors, and other small vehicles under the toll ambit marks a significant policy shift, as such vehicles were typically exempted from toll charges on many national and state highways. The Gorakhpur Link Expressway, developed as a key infrastructure corridor in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is now being brought under a uniform tolling framework to ensure maintenance funding and fair usage costs across all vehicle types.

Impact on Rural Commuters and Farmers

This decision may particularly impact rural commuters and farmers, many of whom use tractors and two-wheelers for short-distance travel and agricultural work. Critics argue that the flat toll rate for bikes, autos, and tractors—₹140 one way—might be disproportionately high for economically weaker sections. However, UPIDA maintains that the pass system for limited trips offers a cost-effective alternative for frequent travelers.
