The much-awaited Chilla Elevated Road project has finally resumed after years of delays. This vital infrastructure project, connecting Delhi and Noida, was initially launched in 2019 when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone. However, construction was stalled due to financial constraints, despite ₹79 crore already being spent. Now, with a revised budget of ₹892 crore, work has officially restarted, bringing relief to thousands of daily commuters struggling with traffic congestion.
How Will the Chilla Elevated Road Benefit Delhi-Noida Commuters?
Once completed, the Noida Elevated Road will significantly improve connectivity between Noida, Delhi, and the Greater Noida Expressway. The project, spanning 5.9 km, will be built on 296 pillars and is expected to handle over 10 lakh vehicles daily. This elevated road will help reduce heavy congestion near the National Dalit Inspiration Site and Film City, which are currently traffic bottlenecks. The six-lane road will provide a smooth and direct route for thousands of daily travelers.
When Will Chilla Elevated Road Be Completed? Latest Construction Updates
The Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam Limited has begun construction based on the General Arrangement Drawing (GA Drawing). The first phase involves laying a solid foundation for the elevated road’s pillars. The upper structure will only be built after IIT approves the design. Officials have confirmed that any necessary changes in the construction plan will be implemented accordingly. Soil testing is also underway, and once the report is finalised, the pace of work will accelerate.
The project was awarded to MG Construction on December 17, 2024, and the contractor has been given a deadline of three years to complete the work. The revised budget, initially increased to ₹940 crore due to rising material costs, has now been finalised at ₹892.75 crore.
What Are the Key Features of the Chilla Elevated Road?
To ensure smooth movement of commuters, the Chilla Elevated Road will feature six strategically placed entry and exit loops. A loop will be provided at Chilla Border to facilitate vehicles exiting towards Sector-14 Industrial Route. Another loop will allow entry at Sector-15A, positioned opposite the exit loop. Vehicles coming from DND will be able to exit at Sector-16 or enter at Sector-16A (Film City). An exit will also be available after Film City, providing access to the MP Two Elevated Road through Sector-18. Another loop will be placed near GIP Mall for easy entry, ensuring a well-connected elevated corridor.
Why Was Chilla Elevated Road Project Delayed?
The Chilla Elevated Road project has faced multiple setbacks since its inception. A feasibility study was conducted in 2012 to address Delhi-Noida traffic congestion, leading to the initial project proposal. The Delhi government gave its approval in 2018, and in January 2019, the foundation stone was laid by CM Yogi Adityanath. However, issues such as PWD budget constraints, rerouting of a GAIL gas pipeline, and design modifications caused repeated delays.
By March 2020, only 13 percent of the construction had been completed before the COVID-19 pandemic forced work to stop entirely. The Noida Authority had already spent ₹79 crore on the project. Later, budget revisions were made due to increasing material costs, and in October 2023, the estimated cost rose to ₹940 crore. After multiple revisions, the final project cost was fixed at ₹892.75 crore. Following fresh approvals and contract allocations, construction was restarted in December 2024 under the supervision of key officials.
How Will the Yogi Government’s Infrastructure Push Improve Delhi-Noida Connectivity?
With work now in progress, the Chilla Elevated Road is set to transform daily commuting between Delhi and Noida. The Noida Elevated Road will provide a faster and more efficient route, reducing delays caused by traffic congestion. The project reflects the Yogi government’s commitment to developing modern infrastructure for better urban mobility. Once completed, it will offer a long-term solution for the growing number of vehicles traveling between Noida, Delhi, and the Greater Noida Expressway, making daily travel significantly easier for commuters.
