CM Yogi Adityanath: The Uttar Pradesh Government has credited the sustained efforts of the “double-engine government” for the effective rollout of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and said the scheme is giving the state a new identity in clean, affordable and renewable energy. In a post on X, the state government said the initiative to bring solar power to every household is helping Uttar Pradesh to establish itself among the leading green energy states of the country.
Monthly Installations Record
Quoting new data, officials said Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, had topped the country in June 2026 by installing 71,888 residential rooftop solar plants – the best-ever monthly performance by the state and a new national record for the highest installations by any state in a single month. To date, the state has received more than 10.89 lakh applications, and installation of 6,36,745 residential rooftop solar plants has been completed.
Target to overtake Maharashtra, Gujarat
Based on the current trend, Uttar Pradesh is projected to become the second largest residential rooftop solar state in the country by the end of July 2026, surpassing Maharashtra. Following this, the next goal is to surpass Gujarat and become India’s leading state in total installations.
Capacity, Subsidies & Jobs Created
The state has already installed solar power capacity of over 2,148 MW, and subsidies of over ₹5,500 crore have been transferred directly to consumers. The sector has over 7,000 companies and vendors and generates over 80,000 direct and indirect jobs. Now, the residential rooftop solar systems in the state are generating about 96 lakh units of free electricity daily, worth over ₹6 crore per day.
Installations have sped up dramatically — from some 500 a day in June 2025 to nearly 2,100 a day in May 2026, with the last 50,000 installations taking only 22 days, the fastest pace in the country.
