The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath, is intensifying efforts to enhance women’s safety, dignity, and empowerment through the Mission Shakti initiative.

Mission Shakti aims to create a secure environment for women by ensuring safety, immediate assistance, and long-term empowerment. The programme integrates multiple services to support women in distress across the state.

One-Stop Centres in All Districts
As part of the initiative, One-Stop Centres are operational in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. These centres provide medical assistance, legal aid, and support in filing FIRs, along with coordination with emergency helplines such as 112, 108, and 102. Victims are also offered safe shelter for up to five days.
Officials stated that over 2.39 lakh women have already benefited from counselling and legal assistance through these centres, highlighting the growing outreach of the programme.
Formation of Women PAC Battalions
In a significant step, the government has established three women Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalions for the first time in the state. These include the Veerangana Uda Devi Battalion in Lucknow, the Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Battalion in Gorakhpur, and the Veerangana Avanti Bai Lodhi Battalion in Badaun.
Strengthening Law Enforcement
Authorities have also revived 34 companies of the PAC to further strengthen law enforcement and improve response mechanisms related to women’s safety. These measures are aimed at enhancing on-ground security and rapid action capabilities.

Officials emphasised that Mission Shakti reflects the government’s commitment to building a safe and self-reliant environment for women. The initiative combines security measures, legal support, and empowerment programmes to address multiple aspects of women’s welfare.
