CM Yogi Adityanath : Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in the country under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with more than 6.2 lakh rooftop solar installations completed as of June 2026, according to information shared by the state government.

Officials said the state accounts for nearly 17 percent of India’s total rooftop solar installations, making Uttar Pradesh the top-performing state in the implementation of the central government’s flagship residential solar scheme.

The government stated that the initiative is helping households transition from being electricity consumers to producers by generating clean energy through rooftop solar systems. The programme is also aimed at reducing electricity bills, promoting renewable energy adoption, and strengthening energy self-reliance.
According to the administration, the rapid expansion of rooftop solar installations reflects the state’s focus on sustainable development and environmentally friendly energy solutions. Officials believe the scheme is contributing to lower carbon emissions while encouraging wider use of renewable energy across urban and rural areas.
The government also highlighted that the initiative supports the broader vision of expanding clean energy infrastructure, improving energy security, and creating long-term economic and environmental benefits for citizens.
Authorities said the continued implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is expected to further accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s transition towards green energy and reinforce its position as a leader in India’s renewable energy sector.
