The agreement was formalised during the ‘UP Investment Road Show’ in Yamanashi, where the Chief Minister showcased the state’s policy environment, economic potential, and readiness to adopt clean energy innovations. Under the MoU, students from higher technical and engineering institutions in Uttar Pradesh will receive specialised training in green hydrogen technologies in Japan, equipping them with skills relevant to emerging clean energy sectors.

Green hydrogen — produced from renewable sources

Green hydrogen — produced from renewable sources such as solar and wind energy — is seen as a key component of clean energy transitions because it emits zero carbon when used. The collaboration aims to accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s adoption of this technology across multiple sectors, including industry, transport and energy, aligning with broader national goals of sustainable development and contributing toward India’s Net Zero target.

Officials said that beyond student training, the deal opens pathways for deeper research and innovation cooperation between universities and industries in both regions. The partnership is expected to strengthen workforce capabilities in advanced energy technologies and deepen technological ties between India and Japan, laying the groundwork for future investment and knowledge exchange.

This initiative comes amid a successful foreign outreach by the Uttar Pradesh government, which has secured significant investment commitments during the Japan-Singapore tour. The state is actively promoting green energy, digital innovation, and manufacturing collaborations as part of its strategy to become a leading global investment destination.

Officials said that these training programs and technology transfers are expected to help Uttar Pradesh leapfrog into next-generation energy solutions, support clean mobility objectives, and expand student exposure to international research environments. Implementation timelines and institutional partnerships for the training components will be announced in the coming months.
