Delhi-NCR News: Just before the onset of the festive season, residents of Delhi-NCR have received unwelcome news. Similar to previous years, this year will witness a disruption in water supply in various areas, including Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad, due to the cleaning of the Ganga Canal. The interruption is expected to last for 20 days, from October 24th to November 14th.
Delhi-NCR Faces Water Supply Disruption During Festive Season Due to Ganga Canal Cleaning
The UP Irrigation Department explained that annual canal cleaning is essential to remove silt and ensure proper water supply throughout the year. Consequently, this routine maintenance will impact water supply in Delhi-NCR for the specified period.
The water supply from Haridwar to the Pratap Vihar Water Plant in Ghaziabad takes 72 hours, with water stored there for an additional three days. Therefore, water supply will initially remain unaffected for three days after the interruption. Subsequently, supply will be impacted. Furthermore, it will take an additional three days for water to reach the Pratap Vihar Water Plant, resulting in a delay in resuming normal supply.
According to the Noida Authority, the water supply plant in Siddharth Vihar, Ghaziabad, has a total capacity of 245 MLD. This plant caters to 80% of Noida, 15% of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), and 5% of the Awas Vikas area.
Residents have expressed their concerns about the disruption of water supply during the festive season, emphasizing the need for alternative arrangements to avoid water shortages. They argue that during festivals, adequate provisions should be made to ensure people do not face inconveniences related to water supply.
