Ganga Expressway: The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has indicated that the much-awaited Ganga Expressway is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi between March 25 to 31.

The six-lane corridor is expected to become fully operational from April 1, 2026. The foundation stone of the expressway was laid in December 2021 by PM Modi. This 594-km six-lane highway, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, promises to slash travel times and supercharge economic growth across the region.

Ganga Expressway-Project Overview

The Ganga Expressway, spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), spans 594 kilometers from Meerut’s Bijoli village to Prayagraj’s Judapur Dandu.

Key Features And Design

Engineered for efficiency, the expressway boasts uninterrupted access control, minimizing congestion. Its six lanes support heavy logistics, with strategic bridges over rivers and rail lines for seamless flow.

Highlights include elevated sections for urban integration and connectivity to Jewar Airport, enhancing air-road synergy. The route optimizes agricultural heartlands, cutting Meerut-Prayagraj travel from 12 hours to 6 hours.

Economic Impact

The corridor will turbocharge logistics, warehousing and MSMEs by linking industrial clusters. Farmers would gain faster market access, slashing post-harvest losses and boosting rural incomes. Enhanced defence mobility and tourism to sites like Kashi further amplify gains, positioning the expressway as UP’s growth engine amid India’s $5 trillion economy push.

Job creation during construction already benefited thousands, while operations promise sustained employment in tourism and trade.

Strategic Connectivity Boost

Integrating with Delhi-Meerut and Purvanchal Expressways, it forms a seamless network, easing pilgrim traffic to Prayagraj and unlocking eastern UP’s potential. Reduced logistics costs could save billions annually, fostering intercity trade.
