Gangsters’ Act: Prayagraj police attached around 14 biswa of Khalid Azeem’s land

Gangsters’ Act: On Friday, Prayagraj police attached around 14 biswa of Khalid Azeem’s land, also known as Ashraf, a former MLA. The land in the city’s Jhalwa neighbourhood is thought to be worth $7 crore.

According to SSP Prayagraj Shailesh Kumar Pandey, section 14 (1) of the Gangsters’ Act has been used to seize the land owned by mafioso turned politician and former MP Atiq Ahmad. With money obtained illegally, Atiq Ahmad bought the land in Ashraf’s name.

On November 15, the district magistrate issued orders authorising the land’s attachment based on the information provided by the Dhumanganj police.

A police team and officials from the revenue department arrived at the Jhalwa location on Friday and posted a sign describing the attachment order on the property. A warning about trespassing on the property was also posted on the notice board.

Properties worth several hundred crore attached by police

The Prayagraj police have attached Atiq’s assets worth several hundred crores in the districts of Prayagraj, Lucknow, and Kaushambi till now. While Ashraf was sent to Bareilly jail following his arrest in 2020, Atiq is currently housed at Sabarmati Jail. Ali is detained in Naini Jail, while Umar, Atiq’s older son, is detained at Lucknow Jail.
