In a fresh push to enhance connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is gearing up for a major expansion under Phase-V of its network. As part of this plan, several new metro routes are being proposed in Ghaziabad, aiming to bring metro access to more densely populated and high-traffic areas of the city.

The DMRC has formally written to the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), seeking its consent to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for four new metro corridors within the district. According to GDA officials, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has already received an outline of the proposed network expansion from DMRC.

Currently, the operational length of the Delhi Metro network spans approximately 352.236 kilometers across Delhi-NCR. An additional 110.617 kilometers is under construction as part of the ongoing Phase-IV expansion. Once completed, the total network length is expected to reach around 462.853 kilometers.

Key Proposed Extensions Under Phase-V:

Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda to Ghaziabad Railway Station:

The Red Line’s current terminal point is Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda. The proposed extension will stretch the line by approximately 3 kilometers to reach Ghaziabad Railway Station. This corridor will include one new station and provide direct metro connectivity to the city’s primary railway hub—greatly improving convenience for commuters and long-distance travelers alike.

Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad:

Another major proposal includes extending the Blue Line from Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad. This 5.1-kilometer extension would feature five new stations, serving areas such as Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, and sectors in Vaishali and Vasundhara. These localities, known for their high population density and frequent traffic congestion, are expected to benefit immensely from the improved public transport access.

Officials clarified that GDA will not be required to contribute financially to the preparation of the DPRs. The Authority has expressed willingness to cooperate with DMRC on the initiative and is expected to grant formal approval soon.

This development signals a broader intent by the AAP-led Delhi government and DMRC to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce vehicular traffic in the NCR. Once finalized, the new corridors could significantly transform public transit options in Ghaziabad, offering residents smoother, faster, and greener travel alternatives.
