District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent drain breach at Siddharth Vihar, which caused severe waterlogging and panic among local residents.

The breach reportedly occurred late Monday night, flooding several internal roads and low-lying areas of the residential locality. Preliminary reports suggest that unplanned construction and lack of regular maintenance may have contributed to the incident.

Committee to Submit Report in 3 Days

The three-member committee will include officials from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), the irrigation department, and the public works department (PWD). The DM has instructed the committee to submit its findings within 72 hours, identifying both technical causes and possible lapses in supervision or execution.

“We are treating this as a serious infrastructure lapse. Accountability will be fixed once the report is submitted,” said DM Verma.

Residents Demand Action, Relief Measures Initiated

Residents of Siddharth Vihar have demanded a permanent solution to frequent drainage issues in the area. Many complained of damage to parked vehicles, household items, and health hazards due to stagnant water.

In response, municipal teams have been deployed to pump out water and sanitize the affected lanes. Tankers were seen operating throughout the day, and civic workers have been instructed to remain on duty round-the-clock until normalcy is restored.

Past Warnings Ignored?

Local sources allege that several complaints had been raised about the deteriorating condition of the drain over the past year, but no major repair work was undertaken. The GDA has so far not issued a statement.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about urban planning and drainage infrastructure in rapidly growing areas like Siddharth Vihar, which are often caught between development and civic neglect.
