Ghaziabad News: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has taken charge to ensure the supply of clean water to 3496 EWS homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This would provide relief to thousands of families who have been forced to live elsewhere temporary or on rented accommodations. After a long wait amid no action from the water board, the GDA has decided to take things in its own hands for this important task.
Ghaziabad News-What’s new?
GDA Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said 3,496 EWS flats have already been constructed in various parts of the city under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and allotments have also been completed. Work for roads, electricity and other basic amenities have already been finished, but most allottees were forced to live elsewhere due to lack of water supply.
Previously, the responsibility for water and sewerage arrangements was given to the water board under the scheme with an estimated budget of around Rs. 14 crore 7 lakh. The water board had not started the work despite the passage of considerable time. Consequently, GDA decided to complete the project on its own. It will soon be issuing tenders for the work so any further delays can be avoided.
What Would Be The Locations?
Water tanks of different capacities, pump houses, tube wells and boundary walls will be constructed at five locations where flats for economically weaker sections (EWSs) have been built. A 200-kiloliter water tank and tube well in Dasna will be built for 432 flats. A 325-kiloliter tank is proposed for 856 flats in Madhuban-Bapudham. A 450-kiloliter tank and 2 tube wells will be constructed for 1200 flats in Pratap Vihar Sector-12. A 200-kiloliter tank for 480 flats in Noornagar and a 250-kiloliter tank for 528 flats in Nivari will also be built.
Once the water supply system is completed, the PM Awas Yojana allottees can shift to their flats, according to GDA.
