Ghaziabad News : Ghaziabad Witnesses Substantial Improvement in Air Quality for October

Ghaziabad News: In a promising development, Ghaziabad experienced a significant reduction in air pollution levels during the month of October, marking a noteworthy improvement compared to previous years. The combined influence of favorable meteorological conditions and the effective implementation of local measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) has played a pivotal role in enhancing air quality, as per data compiled by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Notably, Ghaziabad reported no instances of ‘very poor’ air quality days in October, a remarkable contrast to six such days in 2022 and four in 2021.

Positive Data from the Central Pollution Control Board

Data from the CPCB reveals that Ghaziabad’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) for October was 195, with AQI readings fluctuating between a minimum of 61 and a maximum of 291. These statistics reflect a substantial improvement in air quality when compared to previous years. In October 2022, the AQI ranged from 14 to 384, while it spanned from 45 to 349 in October 2021. The average AQI for October in those years was 216 and 211, respectively.

Effective Implementation of Grap Regulations

Over recent years, the enforcement of Grap regulations has been in effect from October to February or mid-March, outlining a range of pollution abatement measures during periods of heightened pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region. The AQI scale categorizes readings as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (satisfactory), 101-200 (moderate), 201-300 (poor), 301-400 (very poor), and 401-500 (severe).

Contributing Factors to Improved Air Quality

This remarkable improvement in Ghaziabad’s air quality can be attributed to a combination of favorable meteorological factors and the rigorous implementation of local measures. Reduced instances of stubble burning activities have significantly contributed to curbing pollution. Notably, authorities issued penalties amounting to Rs 22 lakh in September and October, targeting various violators engaged in activities such as garbage burning, construction and demolition waste dumping, and industrial emissions.

In summary, Ghaziabad’s notable improvement in air quality for October can be attributed to a coordinated effort involving favorable weather conditions, local measures, and strict enforcement of pollution abatement measures, reflecting a positive trend in addressing air pollution in the region.
