Ghaziabad News: Sports Facilities to Get a Facelift! GNN Earmarks 103 Cr to Build Multi Sports Complex In THIS Locality

The state government has sanctioned ₹103 crore for the construction of a multi-sports complex near Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad, officials from the municipal corporation confirmed on Tuesday.

The proposal, initially sent to the state government in May 2024, was approved for an area of 51,000 square meters near the Karhera rotary, adjacent to the Hindon elevated road’s starting point.

State-of-the-Art Sports Complex for 22 Disciplines

"The ₹103 crore project will include facilities for 22 different sports and will be developed by the Construction and Design Services (a unit of UP Jal Nigam). The agency has been instructed to expedite the construction process. This complex will not only benefit sportspersons from Ghaziabad but also from neighboring cities," said Vikramaditya Malik, municipal commissioner.

Initially, the 51,000-square-meter land was earmarked for a political training institute meant for public representatives and politicians. 

Officials estimate that construction will commence within the next six months. The multi-sports complex will feature guest rooms, a cafeteria, a banquet hall, sports goods shops, and community lawns. Additionally, 8,233 square meters will be designated for pavements and parking. The project will be funded under the Smart City Mission, ensuring modern infrastructure for sports enthusiasts.

Part of the Smart City Mission

Under the Smart City Mission, Ghaziabad is among the seven municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh that qualify for funding of ₹50 crore annually for five years. Other selected cities include Meerut, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura-Vrindavan, Firozabad, and Shahjahanpur.

Municipal officials believe the upcoming sports complex will provide world-class facilities for aspiring athletes, helping them train and compete at higher levels. The strategic location near Raj Nagar Extension makes it easily accessible for players from Delhi-NCR and nearby districts. The project aligns with the government's vision of enhancing sports infrastructure and promoting a sporting culture across the region.
