In a major relief for over a lakh residents of Indirapuram, the local municipal corporation has slashed taxes previously collected as maintenance charges by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). Residents will now pay 20% to 30% less in taxes under the new structure.

Municipal Corporation Has Assured This

The municipal corporation has assured that despite the lower tax rates, it will offer better civic services than what the GDA provided earlier. Officials have also warned that if any municipal employee demands the older, higher GDA maintenance charges, residents should immediately report the matter to the Chief Tax Assessment Officer.

From GDA to Municipal Corporation

Indirapuram was developed and managed by the Ghaziabad Development Authority. The GDA collected maintenance charges from residents under the guise of property tax. However, after persistent demands from local citizens and ward councilors, the area was officially handed over to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation last year.

Now, the municipal corporation is not only overseeing the upkeep of Indirapuram but also collecting its taxes. Instead of the hefty maintenance charges, residents will now pay separately for water tax, sewer tax, and drainage tax—amounting to a significantly lower burden.

Improved Facilities with Lower Taxes

According to Chief Tax Assessment Officer Dr. Sanjeev Sinha, a recent meeting with zonal heads and tax personnel outlined the new system. He confirmed that essential services are being improved, including the reconstruction of main roads and enhanced civic infrastructure.

“Residents are getting better facilities at reduced tax rates. If any irregularities are noticed, people should not hesitate to report them,” Dr. Sinha added.

This decision is being widely welcomed by Indirapuram residents, many of whom have long felt overburdened by the previous tax regime.
