Deadly Collision Leaves Many Injured

According to officials, the pickup van was carrying around 20 passengers when the speeding truck collided with it. The impact of the crash led to severe casualties, prompting an immediate rescue operation. The injured have been rushed to Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, while police and administrative officials, including the District Magistrate, have arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the scene after the collision, and authorities have launched a search operation to track him down.

Stampede Tragedy Adds to the Woes

The accident comes just a day after a deadly stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where at least 30 people lost their lives and 60 others were injured. The stampede occurred in the Sangam area during the pre-dawn hours of "Mauni Amavasya," one of the most sacred days in the Hindu calendar. Millions of pilgrims had gathered to take a holy dip, leading to overcrowding and chaos.

Despite the tragedy, devotees continued to arrive in massive numbers at the Maha Kumbh on Thursday. The Uttar Pradesh government, in response, has intensified crowd management measures. Officials reported that over 2.06 crore devotees participated in the holy bath on Thursday alone, bringing the total number of pilgrims to an estimated 29.64 crore since the event began on January 13.

Strict Measures for Upcoming Bathing Days

In light of recent events, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced stricter protocols for upcoming special bathing days on February 3, 12, and 26. VIP and VVIP movements will be restricted, with prior notifications required at least a week in advance. The Maha Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, will conclude on February 26.

With multiple tragedies unfolding, authorities are under pressure to ensure the safety of pilgrims in the remaining weeks of the festival.
