Greater Noida News: Cruel Man Who Put His Wife On Fire Shot In Leg By Police As He Tries To Flee, Hospitalised

Vipin Bhati, accused of burning his wife alive in Greater Noida was shot by police in the leg as he was attempting to escape custody. This all follows shocking footage of the attack. His wife reported features of the burn injuries sustained by Nikki, ultimately did die.

Greater Noida News, August 24, 2025 — Greater Noida news took a dramatic turn on Sunday when Vipin Bhati — the man accused of setting his wife, Nikki, on fire after a dispute over dowry — was shot in the leg by police after attempting to escape custody at the Sirsa roundabout. He is now hospitalized under police guard.

Dowry horror video footage

Creepy video footage captured the horrific attacks. One video shows Nikki being pulled by her hair and viciously attacked by Vipin and his mother. In another video, she is seen limping down the stairs, set ablaze, and was witnessed on fire by her six-year-old son and Kanchan, her sister.

Victim dies en route to hospital

Nikki was transported to Fortis Hospital with severe burns and then referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Tragically, she perished en route to the medical facility. Her sister Kanchan lodged a complaint, and the police quickly responded. An FIR has been filed against the offenders.

Accused shot while attempting to escape

According to police reports, while taking a suspect named Vipin into custody, police were also trying to assist and escort him to take them to where the evidence would be, before one of the officers walked a few meters away to take position to ensure that the suspect Vipin didn’t try to escape from the scene near the Sirsa roundabout.

Reports indicate that he attempted to grab the arresting officer’s weapon, and the police fired a few rounds at Vipin. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and is currently under medical supervision.

Family’s Response and Investigation continues

Nikki’s father, Bhikari Singh Payla, articulated his complete despair and called for nothing short of the maximum penalty for the suspects. He said, “These are killers, and they should be shot.” Police have set up teams to look for Vipin’s relatives, who are also absconding in this case, notably his parents and brother, who are accused in the FIR, under a number of different sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which is similar to the Indian Penal Code.
