Greater Noida News: A horrific incident in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh has sent shockwaves through the local community. A law student, Kanav Negi, was brutally attacked with an ice-pick by five youths, leaving him critically injured. The attack was so severe that doctors had to remove one of his kidneys during surgery. As Kanav battles for his life in the ICU, the police have registered a case against the accused and launched an investigation.
Shocking Crime at a Greater Noida Institute
The incident took place at the Greater Noida Institute of Technology (GNIT). Kanav, a second-year BA LLB student had arrived at the institute to take his semester exam. A resident of Sector 105, Noida, Kanav was sitting in his car, preparing for the exam, when a group of young men approached him.
The attackers reportedly asked Kanav his name before hitting him with an iron rod. They dragged him out of the car and launched a vicious assault with an ice-pick, stabbing him repeatedly on the abdomen, back and shoulders.
Residents Respond Swiftly After the Attack
According to inkhabar reports, eyewitnesses at the scene immediately informed the police about the brutal attack. Kanav was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition remains critical, and he is currently on a ventilator in the ICU. Local authorities have registered a case and are actively searching for the perpetrators.
Police Arrest Key Accused Within 24 Hours
In a swift breakthrough, the Knowledge Park Police Station team apprehended the primary accused within 24 hours. The suspect, Bhagat Singh, 22, was arrested near Sector 147 based on intelligence and confidential leads.
According to the police, the attack occurred during a minor altercation on January 11, 2025. An attempt-to-murder case was registered under FIR No. 14/2025, with charges including sections 109, 115(2), and 352 of the Indian Penal Code. Bhagat Singh, a resident of the Parthala area in Palwal district, Haryana, has been taken into custody for further investigation.
