Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed the timeline after inspecting the project on Friday.

Lucknow Kanpur Expressway Set for April Roll-out
The 62.7-kilometre high-speed expressway, which is now nearly complete, will drastically reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur from the existing two to three hours to just 30–35 minutes. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity, ease congestion, and act as a catalyst for economic growth in the region.
NHAI officials said that only a narrow stretch in Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar area remains pending due to the ongoing relocation of power lines. Barring this small section, the expressway is fully ready for operational use.
Travel Time to Drop to 30 Minutes
Speaking on the development, NHAI regional officer Gautam Vishal said traffic movement would be opened in phases from early April. “Once operational, the expressway’s positive impact on the economy and society will be felt quickly. Our studies indicate that traffic flow in Kanpur will become nearly three times faster, helping reduce congestion within the city,” he said.
The expressway is expected to play a crucial role in industrial and commercial expansion by improving access to logistics hubs, industrial areas, and urban centres along the corridor. It is also anticipated to boost real estate, employment opportunities, and regional trade between the two major cities.
Designed as a controlled-access, high-speed corridor, the Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader push to strengthen road infrastructure and enhance inter-city mobility. Officials believe the project will also improve road safety by diverting heavy traffic away from existing highways.
With its launch, the expressway is set to become a key artery connecting the state capital with one of its largest industrial cities, further reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s position as a growing economic hub.
